Nursery is a Giant Cat!

Some countries bring a lot of fun ideas into Education. For example, 21st century nursery school in Germany. It looks like a giant white cat and has been designed by an artist Tomi Ungerer and architect Ayla Suzan Yöndel. This inspiring project will serve many generations of children to instill the element of fun into their experience of education.

With a simple and fitting name “Die Katze”, the building is located near the city of Karlsruhe, in Wolfartsweier. Up to 100 children enter it through the doors in the mouth of the cat. They spend their days playing inside the cat’s belly. There is also a slide at the back allowing the children to exit as if sliding down the cat’s tail. Since its construction in 2011, the Kindergarten has attracted a lot of attention. Some people are sceptical, but most reactions are very positive and praise the courage to find new designs for buildings which do not have to all look the same.
