Higher Maths 2026

What will the Higher Maths 2026 exam bring? How many students will take it and how many will get the highest grades?

Last year, nearly twenty thousand students took the Higher Maths exam offered by the SQA. Just over 40% of those who took the exam passed with an “A”. At BK Tutoring we help students to achieve their best grades by regular practising, patient explaining of the most complex areas.

Our tutors shared some practical tips for this year’s candidates:

– Remember to make your solutions as clear as possible and do not miss the final steps, e.g. simplifying final fractions or considering the shape of the transformed graph.

– Use clear and tidy handwriting. Answers written in an unclear way, can easily lead to the marker not being able to score them correctly.

– Check if your numerical calculations are accurate. Students tend to overlook mistakes made along the way.

– Concentrate on a correct evaluation for the question on logarithmic expression.

– Consider that the team who set the Higher exam questions want you to be able to solve differential equations, sketch graphs, find the inverse or calculate the area under a curve and show your working clearly, making the solution clear and easy to follow.

Following the above tips will allow students to make the most of their long weeks of study.

The dates for the 2026 Higher and Advanced Higher Maths exams are Thursday, 07 May and for Higher Application of Maths Friday, 15 May.

Good Luck to all 2026 candidates!
